Welcome to Danes Hill School

All good schools will ensure that your children have an excellent academic experience, they will aim high for your children and support them on their journey, regardless of their individual starting point. As a school we invest in the very best teaching staff who can engage, encourage and inspire your children to achieve academically. We have children here who will go on to academic excellence at highly selective schools, we also have children who will find the lessons in maths and English difficult, or who may find the intricacies of modern languages perplexing. Regardless of your child’s academic potential we will ensure that they are supported and extended to aim high and be the best they can be.

The academics are hugely important but they are only part of school life. If you think back to your own school days I suspect your memories are unlikely to be of the maths lesson in which you finally nailed quadratic equations, or the French lesson when verb conjugation fell into place. Childhood is precious and as adults we have a true responsibility to our children to make it as special as possible. We want our children to have breadth to their lives, to recognise the importance of sport, the arts, philosophical debate, friendships, teamwork … I could go on. At Danes Hill your child’s emotional wellbeing will be strengthened by this breadth and they will become rounded and emotionally intelligent human beings. We want them to have great EQ, to learn to be kind and to understand that a Danes Hill education is a privilege that brings with it the responsibility to give back to others. We want to work with you, as parents, to help your children to become thoroughly decent human beings.

If you share this philosophy then do come and meet us. No school is right for every child so come and get a feel for the ‘intangible’. We have an amazing staff team who inspire as they educate and who model our beliefs to the children on a daily basis. Most importantly we have amazing children, who are happy and love being pupils at Danes Hill School.

Bevendean

Nursery (rising 3s) – Year 1

Creative teaching and learning is very important at Bevendean. We aim to create meaningful experiences for all the pupils and, where possible, learning follows the children’s interests. Curriculum plans are monitored, reviewed and updated regularly to keep them fresh, topical and exciting. Most learning at Bevendean is thematic and topic based which helps the children to make meaning in the real world.

Lower School

Year 2 – Year 3

The aim in the Lower School at Danes Hill is to offer new and exciting challenges to every child. A broad curriculum is provided and all Form Teachers, together with specialist and support staff, create a stimulating learning environment with a caring, nurturing atmosphere. The Lower School creates a secure identity and a sense of belonging for all our children. Years 2 and 3 share many experiences from daily playtimes and lunch to weekly Lower School assemblies and annual events, such as Sports and Speech Days.

Middle School

Year 4 – Year 5

Middle School years are busy, exciting, rewarding and exhausting in equal measure. The children will go on their first residential trip, represent the school in sports teams, take opportunities to try new activities, perform in plays and will discover talents they did not know they had. Children are naturally inquisitive and enthusiastic and our focus is on fostering a creative, stimulating and safe learning environment. We aim to develop well motivated, responsible children, who have a love of learning and the skills and attitude to overcome challenges and achieve their potential.

Upper School

Year 6 – Year 8

The Upper School is made up of three year groups – Years 6, 7 and 8. Children are encouraged to establish, strengthen and value friendships and to support and encourage each other in their endeavours. Our academic programme is both challenging and stimulating. The children are prepared for pre-testing to a wide range of senior schools and a large number of the Year 6 and 8 pupils are entered for a variety of scholarships.

Today was a delightfully eventful morning at our Pre-Prep, featuring class photos and a special visit from Mr Brown. Alongside Mrs Samson, Mr Brown warmly welcomed pupils and parents at the front gate as they arrived at school. Later, he engaged in an insightful Q&A session with the Year 1 ...School Council. Reading to the Reception and Year 1 students proved to be a cherished moment for both Mr Brown and the pupils alike.
